We so often get questions about what rest and Sabbath look like for parents. How do you find the time? How do you bring your kids into moments of Sabbath? And you’re going to hear Yvette Henry’s helpful perspective about all of it today on That Sounds Fun. Her book Release, Rest, Remain is also the perfect thing to pick up on your Sabbath while you take some time to unplug from screens and rest your mind.

. . . . .

We’ve also created a Sabbath Practice Guide for you! This includes ideas on how to make space for rest daily, weekly, and annually. Keep scrolling to the bottom to find your guide.

. . . . .

I think about Jon Acuff’s book Soundtracks all the time. It’s such a profound idea and such an easy way to track how my beliefs have become my actions.

The soundtrack “Slow is wasteful” shapes me more than I want to admit.

Especially as a person who really loves practicing Sabbath and believes in the power of this discipline, it’s weird for me to have such an anti-Sabbath soundtrack that runs through my mind and shapes my decisions and frustrations.

I’ve torn both of my meniscus discs in the last few years. Right leg first, then my left leg wanted to join the club 24 months later.

And both times, it led to a significant slow down.

It changed how I walked, how I went to the office, how I got in and out of my car. It changed my speed in every way. And there was nothing I could do except the day I’d been given and writing a new soundtrack that says, “Slow is healing” and “Slow is meaningful” and “Slow is how you get where you want to go.”

I’m facing it again this month.
